The World Soundtrack Academy has announced the list of its nominees for the 2010 World Soundtrack Awards. Once again, the lion’s share of the nominated composers and songwriters are ASCAP members and international affiliates – including perennial nominees Carter Burwell, John Powell and Hans Zimmer. The names of the winners will be announced at the World Soundtrack Awards 10th Anniversary Gala on Saturday, October 23rd, the closing night of the Ghent International Film Festival.
Following the Awards presentations, 11 world class composers will be appearing live in concert, including ASCAP’s own Howard Shore (Lord Of The Rings trilogy), Elliot Goldenthal (Frida, Interview With A Vampire), Angelo Badalamenti (Twin Peaks) and Nico Muhly (The Reader). Also performing are SACEM affiliates Gabriel Yared (The English Patient) and Bruno Coulais (The Chorus, Coraline), PRS affiliates Stephen Warbeck (Shakespeare In Love) and Craig Armstrong (Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Ray), SGAE affiliate Alberto Iglesias (The Kite Runner, Volver) and SABAM affiliate Frédéric Devreese (Un Soir, Un Train), all of whom license through ASCAP in the US.
The Academy Board also nominated ASCAP affiliate Hélène Muddiman (PRS) for the prestigious Discovery of the Year honor, selected by the Academy to celebrate emerging film composing talent. ASCAP members Klaus Badelt, Antonio Pinto, Craig Armstrong, Michael Giacchino and Nico Muhly have all been selected in previous years. In addition to the Awards presented by the Academy, film music fans around the world can vote for the best soundtrack of the year (see www.worldsoundtrackacademy.com/voting).
