Neumann, best known for its high-end condenser mics, just released an expanded, eight-channel version of its DMI-2 digital microphone interface. Like its smaller predecessor, the DMI-8 ($3,498) can handle sample rates from 44.1 to 192 kHz, offers remote digital microphone control, and conversion from AES 42 to AES/EBU. But the rack-mountable unit adds the ability to adjust gain without a computer, multi-unit cascading for up to 128 channels, and a number of multi-channel output formats, including ADAT optical and a D-sub 25 with Tascam and Yamaha pin assignments.
