Musical Storm

A view of the audience as Dr. Dog performs on the ASCAP-sponsored Filter Magazine Showdown at Cedar Street Courtyard stage

ASCAP swept into this year's SXSW Music Fest with a wide range of music and events

On Wednesday night, March 17th, ASCAP kicked off its 2010 SXSW musical events with a full-blown rock showcase at the Dirty Dog in Austin. Reflecting the diverse universe of musical styles that now fall under the rock banner, this year's lineup featured an eclectic group of bands: HoneyHoney, Future Future, The Uglysuit, Kopecki Family Band, Shadow Shadow Shade, Moneypenny and Black and White Years.

The next day ASCAP fanned out across Austin, taking to the water, the stage, the convention center and the streets, showing the force of ASCAP's presence at this year's 24th annual event. ASCAP's Boat Cruises (sponsored by Evergreen Copyrights as well as SOCAN and IMRO), took attendees on networking trips on Lady Bird Lake; ASCAP's Marc Emert-Hutner participated on a publishing panel at the Austin Convention Center; and ASCAP members played on stages, in tents, and on the streets all across Austin throughout the day and long into the night. Also, it was the first of three days of the ASCAP & Filter Magazine's Showdown at Cedar Street Courtyard featuring some of today's hottest buzz bands.

On Friday, March 19, ASCAP presented its Quiet on the Set showcase in the Victorian Room at the distinguished and historical Driskill Hotel, presenting a diverse lineup of emerging songwriters and bands, including Obi Best, Charlie Parr, the Carolina Chocolate Drops, Rachael Cantu, Mads Langer, Audra Mae and The Rescues.

As a cold and torrential rain began falling on the last day of the festival, festival-goers who had a hot time at ASCAP events at least had some warm memories to wrap around themselves.
