You all started out in different bands, so how did you meet and how did fun. originate?

We all met while on different tours together. Andrew and Jack were the type of people I would see perform every night and salivate over the talent they have, so when my old band broke up I called them right away to see if they were interested in working together and helping me finish some songs.

What’s the story behind the name “fun.”?

The three of us had been working nonstop on demos in Jack’s parents’ living room in New Jersey. One night we decided to take a break and head into NYC to see a friend perform comedy. While a group of us were eating before the show, we started trying to come up with names. Someone said "ice cream." I didn’t like it, but I liked the image it conjured up, so jack said "fun," and it sat atop our list until it was time to decide.

You recorded Aim and Ignite both at home and in a studio.  How did each affect the process? The songs?

Not much of a difference. Once we sit down and start working, it doesn’t matter where we are. We can only be bothered for dinner.

Describe the fun. sound in six words or less.

A boatload of bells and whistles.

What is the best advice you've ever gotten about rock ‘n’ roll?

On one of the first tours I’d ever done, someone in one of the other bands who had been doing it for a long time told me to never drive over 75 mph in the van, no matter what. Even if it meant missing the show, it’s never worth it to put your life in danger. Somehow that’s stuck with me as much as anything in my life, and we've adhered to it and have been able to travel eight months out of the year without any real problems. *knocking on wood*

What sandwich gets eaten most in your tour van?

Good question. Sadly, peanut butter and jelly. There are a few vegetarians and no safe place to store mayonnaise.
